My product design journey (so far)

Hi! 👋 Glad you’re here. I’m Emily: a product designer with 12 years of experience spanning across agencies, scrappy startups, and global Fortune 500 companies.

I began my career at a boutique studio in Montclair, NJ. There, I worked on mobile apps for Food Network, Fast Company, National Geographic, NFL, The Royal Irish Academy, Notre Dame Athletics, and many others. I loved the fast pace and variety of work that agency life afforded me, but I was only exposed to a small slice of the product lifecycle. I wanted to move in-house so that I could be more immersed in a single problem space.

Plated, a meal-kit subscription service, brought me on as a graphic designer in mid-2014, but quickly saw my potential in product design. I stayed for four years through their acquisition by Albertson’s. I then joined the New Businesses team at Audible where I worked on both international expansion and B2B initiatives.

I’ve spent the last 4 years at Spotify which has been a dream in so many ways. I’ve focused on creating avenues for artists to reach more fans and earn more from their art. I designed the foundational payment capabilities to enable teams to launch new paid features in Spotify for Artists. I managed a team of designers who supported other foundational capabilities for creators like organization management, security, and content permissions.

When connecting the dots of my past experiences, I see a pattern of designing for audiences who are not primary and are often underserved. At Plated this meant creating tools for our customer support and procurement teams. At Audible this meant collaborating closely with our enterprise sales team and helping them create more seamless workflows. At Spotify, this meant designing for creators, creator support, sales and for other R&D teams. Prioritizing good, human-centered design where it might otherwise be overlooked can absolutely have impact. I’m also someone who has a great deal of patience for regulatory and compliance having worked on payments extensively in my last two roles. 😂

I’m open to new full-time remote opportunities.
